Does caffeine improve your performance?

Caffeine is the most widely used drug in the world.  Many people consume caffeine daily in the form of coffee, tea, energy drinks, and pre-workout.  Caffeine is used because it has been shown to increase power, strength, time to exhaustion, and increase pain tolerance.  In fact, caffeine is so effective it has been shown to increase power similar to a 4-week plyometric program.  Basically, a plyometric program is a training program that uses explosive jumps to increase power.

A fun fact is that caffeine has been shown to increase strength in both the upper and lower body.  However, caffeine seems to be more effective for increasing strength in the upper body than in the lower.
